Created by Halfbrick Studios, the same developers of the ever popular Jetpack Joyride, this action game is quite simple and will be sure to result in instant fun for all. The object of the game is to use your finger to slash and splatter all the juicy fruit that comes flying onto the screen. The concept sounds pretty easy, however, if you miss three fruit or accidentally set off a bomb by swiping it, the game is over. Along with the classic mode, Fruit Ninja also includes arcade mode which provides for power-ups, zen mode which involves none of those annoying bombs, and multiplayer that allows you to play against an online opponent. There is some customization available in the Sensei’s Swag section where you can change the playing background or unlock the type of blade you want to use. Can’t get enough fruit slashing action? Description: Who would have thought that a jousting game could work so well on a mobile touch screen device. Shake Spears!, created by Alawar Entertainment, is a medieval jousting game that allows you to compete in tournaments to win over the heart of that special lady and be known as victorious throughout the land. There are three different game modes from which to choose. In Path to Glory, your knight will have to compete in twenty cities and must defeat four tough bosses to be awarded the championship. Act of Valour is all about survival. You will have to face knight after knight without reviving your health. Men at Arms is the multiplayer mode in which you can go up against a friend via Bluetooth. The controls of the game are relatively simple and easy to use, as your left index finger controls your knight’s shield while your right index finger controls the spear. The first knight that runs out of health and falls off his horse loses the match. As you compete against other knights, you will be awarded coins that can be redeemed for leveling up to improve your knight’s skills, or in the magic shop to purchase power-ups. There are sixteen power-ups in total that can be used in battle to give your knight the advantage, but watch out because your opponents can use them as well. Overall, Shake Spears! is a fun addictive game worth checking out and recommending to your friends that want to grow up to be a knight someday.

Description: I first heard about this game when I noticed a thread on Reddit posted by the developer promoting his app as currently being one of the Top 25 free apps in the App Store. (BTW, you can subscribe to This App is Awesome on Reddit here). Investigating further, the comments posted in the thread were almost all positive so I had no excuse not to give this game a try. Geared, created by Bryan Mitchell, is a puzzle game where the objective is to connect the rotating yellow and idle blue gears together using the gears that you have in your inventory. The controls are simple, just dragging gears in place, however the gameplay becomes more difficult as you advance through the 200 levels. There are in-app purchases that are available, however they are not necessary to complete the game. Thankfully, you are awarded tokens for leveling up and playing the game daily that can then be used to purchase solutions or skip a level if you get really stuck. Overall, Geared is a fun addictive game that is an absolute must get for any device and amazing for a free game to download.

Lane Splitter

Description: If you own any type of motorcycle or street bike, you know the adrenaline rush that takes over your body when weaving through traffic on a busy highway. If you don’t own one, you’re now able to experience that same feeling safely thanks to Fractiv’s game application, Lane Splitter. This game feels just right on mobile devices as it uses tilt controls to move your player left or right. The controls seem fluid for the most part with no glitches, however they can get a little out of control if you are drifting from side to side. Each character in Lane Splitter has a special ability that can be activated when you touch the screen. There are seven characters that can be played: two of them already unlocked and the others bought from coins earned along the way. There are also in-game items and upgrades that can be purchased to help you survive longer and reach a higher score. The leaderboards are great in that not only do they compare your scores with friends and others worldwide, but they rank your best top ten scores. Even if you go on an insane run that may seem impossible to beat, you still are able to improve the other nine ranks. Random stats are included that you might want to look up such as how many cars you passed or how many times you evaded the cops. Overall, this game is addictive and fun to play and definitely worth checking out.

Description: I have seen games top both the Android Market and App Store at the same time such as Where’s My Water?, but I have never seen a mobile game take over Twitter in the process. At one time Draw Something, created by OMGPOP, was not only at the top of the paid app charts for both Android and Apple, but also trending in the United States. That is insane. The basis of this wildly popular game requires both your creativity and artistic abilities, as you go back and forth with a partner drawing random words and having to guess correctly to earn coins. The coins can later be used to earn more colors for your pastel or bombs to choose new words to draw or help guess your partner’s drawing. The game keeps track of your stats, such as how many turns back and forth, your top colors used, how long you have been playing, and even how long on average it takes for you to guess your partner’s drawing. The social aspect is the most enjoyable as you are able to play with your Facebook friends, people on your e-mail list, or random opponents. You can even watch your partner try and guess what you have drawn which can get pretty hilarious.
