Paper Toss

Paper Toss

Description

Every time we hear of a game from Backflip Studios, our first reaction is that we just have to review it on This App Is Awesome. Paper Toss, created by the one and only Backflip Studios (also creators of Army of Darkness Defense and NinJump Deluxe), is a very simple yet highly addictive game that will let you practice your jump shot without wasting trees!

The object of the game is to flick the crumpled paper ball into the trashcan consecutively until you miss. There are six levels of varied difficulty to choose from that include annoying fans that blow your shot off course to having the trashcan located farther away. This is definitely a game that can be picked up on the first try and be enjoyed by all ages.

Paper Toss Main Menu

Presentation

This is yet another perfect game for a mobile device as everything fits nicely within the screen. However if you get the free version there are some annoying ads that can be removed by upgrading to the paid one.

Sound

Each level has it’s own background noises associated with it. You will hear clapping when you make it in, and sighs when you miss.

Controls

As easy as flicking your finger. It does take time to perfect this though!

Replay Value

High – Basically it is a new game when your streak ends so you will be playing over and over again for awhile. Also this is the perfect game to play when you need to be entertained for a couple minutes.

Zenonia

Zenonia

0

Description

The Zenonia series has set the expectations high for role playing games on mobile devices. Zenonia, created by Gamevil, is the first in a series of 16-bit classic arcade style role playing games. You play as Regret, a young kid that is taken on a quest to find answers to the death of his adoptive father. There is a battle brewing between the Dragon Clan and the White Knights, which forces Regret to make decisions about whom to ally with and whom to turn against. Keep in mind that the decisions made throughout the game will affect the path and quests along the way.

This is not the type of game that will be quick to pick up, as it involves a deep story line and lots of dialogue. Gamevil has stated that Zenonia provides over 40 hours of gameplay, and we feel that number is pretty accurate. While there are some minor issues that we noticed with controls, Zenonia is still a standout as far as RPGs are concerned.

Zenonia Main Menu

Presentation

The presentation is just fine with enough area to see all around you as well as a map in the top left corner of the screen to help if needed.

Sound

A great soundtrack here with different background music for each area that visit and explore.

Controls

The controls feature a touch pad on the left to move in the direction you want Regret to go, and two buttons on the right used for choosing items and actions. The control pad does have some minor issues such as sometimes being slow to respond or facing in a direction, however these problems do not take away from the overall experience.

Replay Value

Low – Zenonia is such an extensive game that it takes forever to beat it one time. If you can beat this twice you are my hero.

NinJump Deluxe

NinJump Deluxe

Description

Sometimes the simplest games are the most fun and addicting to play. NinJump Deluxe, created by Backflip Studios (the same developers that created Army of Darkness Defense which is absolutely AMAZING), falls into that category. It’s one of those games that is very quick to pick up and does not involve any time trying to figure out the rules or controls.

The objective of the game is to run as high as you possibility can up a wall, avoiding obstacles and gaining power-ups. Chop three enemies in a row and be rewarded with a unique power-up that will help you accelerate your speed to the top. There are also shields that can be collected and used to help protect your Ninja when you run into an enemy. NinJump Deluxe has recently been upgraded and includes four new levels to choose from: Classic, Jungle, Pirates, and Castle. With new enemies to take on and levels to conquer, you will have fun playing this title.

NinJump Deluxe Main Menu

Presentation

Another perfect game for a mobile device based on the way the layout is presented.

Sound

Each of the four environments have different background music based on the area you are in.

Controls

The controls are as simple as can be. Just tap the screen to have your ninja jump from one side of the screen to the other.

Replay Value

High – The games are relatively short depending on how skilled you are at this game, however it is unbelievably addicting you could literally lose track of time enjoying this one.

Triple Town

Triple Town

Description

I have to admit this is one game I’ve heard rave reviews about but never actually played. With the recent FREE release of Spry Fox’s Triple Town to iOS and Android devices, I knew it was time to try this one out. About two hours later (would have been longer but ran out of moves) I came to the conclusion that this game could very well be in contention for one of the best new apps of 2012…and it’s only January.

Triple Town is an addictive puzzle game in which the object is to grow the largest city possible. You earn points by combining three objects together to make a bigger object. For example, three bushes make a tree, three trees make a hut, etc. But watch out, the evil bears will try and block your path to success by filling up the board. When the board is full and there are no moves left to be made, the game is over. While the game is FREE to download and play, there are some in-game purchases available where you can buy coins and unlock unlimited turns. Triple Town is the type of game that is easy to pick up but impossible to put down.

Triple Town Main Menu

Presentation

Perfect clean layout, where everything within the game can be viewed without moving around.

Sound

No background or theme music in this one, however there are some unique sound effects from the evil bears and other game pieces.

Controls

Point and click controls are the best for these types of games because they are simple to learn and impossible to mess up.

Replay Value

High – This game is so unique and addictive. It is guaranteed that you will start a new game once the one you are playing is over.

Description

It’s rare to find a quality made and very addictive FREE game that is available for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. Everyone seems to like playing frisbee every once awhile, and now you can enjoy the experience on your mobile device. Kiloo, the app developer, has gone above and beyond to bring us Frisbee Forever, a Frisbee golf type game that is quite entertaining.

The objective of the game is to collect as many stars as you can to advance to the next level. The game may seem easy at first, but it becomes much more challenging as you move along. This title is packed with 130 levels that vary from sunny resorts to snowy terrains. Use the star coins you collect in the game to purchase Frisbees and valuable add-ons. It would be awesome to see other developers follow suit like Kiloo in the future and produce quality, fun, and FREE games that are available to all devices.

Frisbee Forever Main Menu

Presentation

The overall presentation is great being that this is a FREE game. There are different 3D environments for every level you play.

Sound

Surprisingly, the guitar theme and in-game music is pretty catchy and might even get stuck in your head after playing.

Controls

Two different control options are available that both work well. Tap on the left or right arrows to move or tilt your device in the direction you want to go.

Replay Value

Medium – New levels are added quite frequently as well as tons of frisbees and trophies to unlock. There is also a leveling up system where you gain experience every time you collect a star, whether you complete or fail the specific course.
